Biggleswade Town 1-0 Daventry Town

Biggleswade recorded their first win of the new season with a close victory over recently promoted Daventry Town.
The Waders created some good chances early on with Jonathon Woolf and Geoffrey Banks-Smith looking dangerous down the wings. Banks- Smith and Lee Harman both had chances to put Biggleswade ahead in the opening twenty minutes but Daventry Keeper Andrew Kemp was equal to both. Kemp made another good save when Stuart Lochhead attempted a cheeky chipped free kick which was tipped over the bar. The deadlock was finally broken on twenty three minutes when Banks-Smith broke free down the left wing before cutting into the box and sliding home the opener for Biggleswade. After the opener Daventry posed more of a threat with John Mitchell attacking down the left wing and after a corner into the box Peter Gatti was at hand to clear the ball of the line.
The second half proved to be less entertaining than the first with less attacking play from both sides. Woolf and Banks-Smith who had been so impressive in the first half failed to make a similar impact in the second. With ten minutes to go the game began to open up and Dean Bull was forced to make a good save from Mitchell on the left side. He then produced another good save from a Wayne Blossom header just two minutes later. There was drama at the end as Daventry were awarded a late free kick on the edge of the area but it was blaster well over Bull’s goal. Biggleswade hung on the win in a game they should have won by more but some good goalkeeping by Bull and a solid defence performance by Mark Webster ensured they hung on to the win.
